Rear Light circuit board rehab

Post by DRUMMOND »

The rear light circuit board suffers from non solder contact rivets that attach the bulb holders to the printed circuit this means over time just like the fuse box resistance builds up or the rives come loose and cause numerous conductivity problems. Here is how I solved this problem and now have 100% conductivity.
Started with this sad looking circuit board

these are the rivets, eventually you only get contact through the skinny rivet necks

This was the only way to get conductivity. nothing came through from the bulb holder

I abraded with a dremel the bulb holder and the printed circuit then soldered them together all of them, then I drilled two holes in the ground printed circuit placed a 1/8" bolt through the hole, soldered it together, this gives me an additional and stronger ground contact
100% contact every time

I'm going with you have a wealth of knowledge in electrical work.

Great job. My panels didn't look quite so bad, but definitely worth a look.

I am just cheap! I dont like to throw anything away :D If it can be saved or improved with a little work.

just so people know, the rear lights units share just one skinny ground. It jumps from the right unit to the left unit. Better to upgrade if possible for better function and brightness.
