Bushing Press Off

I need this bushing pressed off the main shaft of my 5 speed:

So the manuals say take it to a "machine shop". Well, those don't seem so easy to find and then what contraption would they use and how would they push off this bushing with only that slim outside rim to grab on? Even if you wanted to push the whole gear and bushing together, the other parts get in the way.
If I knew how it was done I'd be willing to invest in a HF press and be my own machine shop. Any "machine shop" pros out there?

Press the gear off the shaft and then the bushing.

Thanks but the bushing has to come off first or both together. All these pieces can only come off the shaft in one direction - toward you in the photo. It's just the way the Fiat 5 speed main shaft is built.

I think I would stand that shaft upright and let PB Blaster soak it over night. Tap it lightly and try to free it.

Next, support the gear and tap the end of the shaft.

Next, heat the bushing to expand it on the shaft to try and free it.

Usually that pulls off by hand, so I would think that if you put the gear between a couple of pieces of wood and tap on the shaft, it should come off. If you have to hit the shaft hard be sure to put something soft, like a piece of wood, between it and the hammer.

I've seen a few that were hard to remove, but it's not common.

did the trans run out of oil?

Not in the 6 months that I've owned it. The rest of the disassembly went smooth and parts look good. A garage mechanic friend pushed it off and I'll find out Monday how he did it and how hard he pushed.

I think it wasn't really stuck on so tight rather the parts are machined so close that it can be tricky to maneuver the piece off without angling it a bit and causing it to bind.
