Pretty wire and connectors

Post by fiat218 »

This 69 I picked up, the PO or maybe before him, had ran nice pretty green and red wire all over :)
He had a separate pull knob switch for the lights, one for a ridiculous fan that attached to the front of the radiator, and a switch for the power to start the car
Yesterday morning I remove all his nice wire,i took the gauge cluster out and removed the upset console
Lots of wires where just cut off,and there the original wires for light in the upper console
Ciggy lighter etc
Lights in the clusters don't work.
I got one headlight original wires hooked together and looking for the other, I may have to pull the grill out to see if I can see it,
I see some connectors by the clutch pedal that was just hanging there and a wire with a female end,
Should be fun to play with today on a rain day

I fixed my turn signal cancelling mechanism in the steering column the other day. Unfortunately I discovered one end of a cut blue/orange wire with no idea what it is/was for. I'm wondering if it's factory extra as the PO was a lawyer who never touched it, selling it 9 years an 2,000 later and the original owner was a woman who put 50K on the car from 1980 - 2007. EVERYTHING in the car works, with exception to missing heater core and windshield washer.

Any thoughts folks?

This is not my engine by all means
But the engine in my 69 that I just got seems to have had a fan in front like this photo
Image

Why would some come with a fan like this and most have the other style

Jim: You got a lotta work doneover the last couple of days. Must have been REALLY raining up there! :D

Looking good. I'd add white wires to the green and red and continue the Italian theme.....

OK Jim here goes.
On my 68 1438 I have a magnetic clutch fan (or called something similar). The idea is as the temp goes up the magnet engages and locks the fan which turns with the engine. When it's running cool, the magnet is released and the fan spins freely as it is no longer locked with the motor (hence clutch term).

Years ago when I got the car, it had a habit of overheating once in a while. The clutch was not locking the fan so it was free spinning which didn't cool the rad enough. We replaced the water pump and locked the clutch so the fan always turns (just tightened a few little bolts on the clutch fan). My mechanic told me that it would wear down the water pump faster this way.
That was 13 years ago (60,000 miles). Same water pump and never once over heated since.
Hope that helps/.Good luck with your 69 Jim.
Lotsa work but it will be worth it.

I do recall my other one had that magnetic clutch but the fan was gone and there was the other one that sit in front of the radiator, and this 69 the fan is gone also. So how do you get that bolt or pull off to convert it to the fan in front of the rad,
Thanks
